A York man was arrested after he led Carlisle police on a pursuit and then tried to carjack a vehicle with a woman and two children when he crashed, authorities said.
Eric T. Flowers, 34, faces a list of charges including attempted robbery of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, and reckless endangerment.
Police said the chase began Thursday morning when Flowers nearly struck a police cruiser on N. West Street at the intersection of E Street.
He fled and led police on a 1.6 mile chase throughout the borough, and at one point was driving the wrong way on N. East Street, authorities said.
Police said the officers greatly reduced their rate at that point, due to safety concerns for drivers and pedestrians.
Flowers's vehicle was last seen turning east onto E. Pomfret Street, but a probation and parole officer who was nearly involved in a collision followed it to the 800 block of Old York Road where Flowers had overturned in the roadway and was attempting to get into the vehicle with the woman and two children, police said.
He was arraigned and sent to Cumberland County Prison on $50,000 cash bail.
