Northbound Interstate 83 will be restricted to a single lane Saturday morning near the bridge over Loucks Mill Road in Spring Garden Township, York County.
PennDOT spokesman Greg Penny said the lane restriction from 7 a.m. to roughly 12 noon is necessary so that maintenance crews can remove a portion of a metal expansion joint in the bridge deck that has become loose.
Removing the loose metal expansion joint is a safety precaution to prevent it from protruding above the pavement surface and damaging vehicles or even causing a crash, Penny said.
The bridge is between Exit 19 for Market street and Exit 21 for Route 30.
Penny said PennDOT will make arrangements with a private contractor to come in on another day and repair the bridge joint.
