Gettysburg attorney pleads guilty to $3M fraud

A disbarred Gettysburg attorney has pleaded guilty in federal court to stealing more than $3 million from eight clients.

Wendy Weikal-Beauchat, 46, pleaded guilty to wire fraud and is awaiting sentencing.

Federal prosecutors said Beauchat misappropriated client funds to pay for her
business and personal expenses, and concealed the fraud by providing
clients with bogus Certificates of Deposit and IRS 1099 Interest Forms.

Alleged victims of her scheme included
the elderly, a person suffering from dementia, and couples planning for
their retirement, authorities said.

Beauchat was a member of a law firm in Gettysburg until February
2012.

According to the firm's website, her area of concentration was
estate planning and long-term care planning.
