A Perry County woman says changes in the healthcare law are going to price her right out of much of the treatment she needs.
Newport resident and Medicare recipient Karen Shull just got a letter from Highmark about her Freedom Blue health insurance plan.
Costs would be increasing, she was told, because of the money being taken from Medicare to pay for parts of the Affordable Care Act. Shull will feel those increases.
“Oxygen that I used for sleep apnea, which I didn't have to pay before, that's going to be about $50 a month,” she said. “The premium's going up about $48 a month.”
And that doesn't include her co-payments. Shull says she has multiple sclerosis and sleep apnea. She also has a serious immune deficiency and is on a fixed income.
Shull is not sure at this point what she is going to do. She says she will have to make some tough choices. “
“Do I use the oxygen or do I stop seeing all the specialists every month,” she asked.
