The Army Heritage and Education Center will begin an artifact- and exhibit-sharing partnership that officials say will last as long as both locations are operating.
A spokesperson for the army center says the relationship with the Smithsonian would not have an impact on any future decisions on army facility closings because there is no financial agreement in place; it's just an exchange of resources.
Harold Closter, the director of Smithsonian Affiliates, says AHEC became an affiliate of the institution because it has been operating at the highest standard of the museum profession.
AHEC plans to send to Washington, D.C. the exhibit of Benjamin O. Davis, the Army's first African American General. AHEC is the first army museum to have an affiliate agreement with the Smithsonian.
