Fire damages 3 Middletown homes

A fire severely damaged a townhouse in the Village of Pineford apartment complex in Middletown this morning before spreading to two other homes.

Middletown Fire Chief Kenton L. Whitebread Sr. said the fire started at 1601 Pineford Drive and spread to the attic before damaging 1600 and 1602.

No injuries were reported.

Whitebread said firefighters were initially dispatched to 1601 Pineford for a dryer fire shortly before 4 a.m. He said the fire, caused by build-up in the lint trap, was extinguished and the dryer was removed from the home before the scene was cleared about two hours later.

Just after 7 a.m., however, firefighters were called back to the home for a fire on the second floor. The blaze was brought under control in about 45 minutes.

Whitebread said the cause of the second fire has not yet been determined, and it is not known if there is a connection between the two.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.
