A man who was the subject of an intensive police search in Chambersburg was wanted for the attempted kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend, according to court documents.

Williams Daniels, 44, of Florida, went to the woman's home in the 100 block of S. Main Street on Wednesday morning to take her back to Miami, the criminal complaint states.

The woman said Daniels told her that if he couldn't have her nobody would. She said he then put a gun to her ribs and led her across the street, the complaint states.

The woman broke free of Daniels's grip and ran back across the street. Daniels followed her and dropped the handgun in the middle of the street, according to the court document.

Daniels remains at large and has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, and persons not permitted to carry a firearm.

Police said they tried to take him into custody Wednesday morning in the area of Hollywell and Dump Road, but he fled on foot into a wooded area.

The nearby Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School was locked down during a three-hour search that involved Chambersburg police, Pennsylvania State Police, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and a Maryland State Police helicopter.
