Preschool evacuated for bomb threat

State police have responded to a Franklin County preschool where all children were safely evacuated Friday afternoon following a bomb threat.

Trooper Robert Hicks, a state police spokesman, said the Growing Tree Preschool in Marion received the threat in a telephone call at around 2 p.m.

The caller stated that a device would go off as children were being dismissed from the preschool at 126 Social Island Road, Hicks said.

Troopers used a bomb sniffing dog to check the building and were waiting for a bomb squad to arrive.

They expected to remain on the scene until at least 7 p.m.

Route 11 and other roads in the area are closed.

Police are urging people to avoid the area.
