Patients want former dentist to pay for HIV/Hepatitis tests

Patients of a York County dentist who lost her license after the state said she failed to properly sterilize instruments are finally hearing from her.

In a letter sent out last week, Dr. Jacqueline Marcin said she would do her best to reimburse patients for the cost of testing for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, as recommended by the Pennsylvania Department of Health in early June.

Red Lion father Perry Capurro and his seven-year-old son Lucas have both had procedures done by Marcin over the last two years. His family has already spent nearly $1,000 for tests that came back negative, but will have to undergo another round in December as a precaution.

Capurro said he is skeptical he will get all of this money back.

“To do the best you can to help us be reimbursed, Dr. Marcin needs to step up and reimburse us for all charges,” he said. “Not just some — all of them. We don't have the money and this is something she is accountable and responsible for.”

Department of Health spokesperson Holli Senior told abc27 Marcin has not been as cooperative as they had initially hoped, saying in a statement, “We believe Dr. Marcin should have made concrete plans for testing and reimbursement, however, the PADOH has no authority to force her to provide it.”

Senior said she is prohibited by state law to discuss whether or not any of Marcin's patients have tested positive for any infectious diseases.

Marcin's license remains revoked, according to the Department of State, however she can apply for a stay once corrective actions are taken. If a stay is granted, Marcin would be granted a license under a five-year probationary period.

Calls made to Marcin's attorney Tuesday were not returned.
