2 in plane unharmed after cornfield landing

A pilot and passenger in a single-engine plane escaped injury Thursday evening when they were forced to make an emergency landing in a cornfield, state police in Jonestown said.

The pilot, a 51-year-old Lebanon man, had just taken off from the Deck Airport in Jackson Township when the plane had an engine malfunction and lost power, police said.

The pilot was able to turn around and attempted to glide back to the runway, but were forced to land in the field just north of the airport at around 6:30 p.m., police said.

The pilot and a 52-year-old woman from Lebanon were not injured, and the plane was not damaged.
