Adams Co. bridge replaced, removed from structurally deficit list

A structurally deficit bridge in Adams County has been replaced and reopened after being reduced to one lane of traffic since last summer, said PennDOT spokesman Greg Penny.

The bridge that carries Route 234 over the Conewago Creek between Arendtsville Borough and Butler Township was reopened to both directions of traffic around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The former bridge was built in 1934 and was replacement by a PennDOT contractor at a cost of $1.6 million.

The location has now been removed from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Pennsylvania.
