Midstate mail carriers work to “stamp” out hunger

Mail carriers from all across the country are trying to “stamp” out hunger by takings collections for food banks.

abc27 caught up with several midstate postal workers collecting canned goods as they made their routine deliveries, which will benefit the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

Tim Kubiak, a supervisor at the Harrisburg Post Office, was impressed with the efforts.

“I've seen carriers who had about 3 feet high, front-to-back in their vehicles just filled with canned goods, non-perishables and rice, stuff like that.”

The Harrisburg-area mail carriers are hoping to beat last year's donation of 25,000 pounds of food.

Nationally, this is the largest one-day effort to combat hunger.
