Stray bullet may have hit Harrisburg man, police say

A 40-year-old Harrisburg man told police he was shot in the thigh late Thursday after he stepped outside a bar.

The man told officers he was texting a friend outside the Jazzland Bar at 1922 Walnut Street when he heard several shots in the area of State Street and then felt a pain in his leg, police said.

He collapsed and crawled back into the bar, and was then taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment of a non-life threatening wound, police said.

The man dropped his cell phone and car keys when he collapsed. A bar patron found the keys but not the cell phone, police said.

Police said they found spent casings from a handgun about 100 yards away from the bar door and near State Street.

They said it appears the wounded man may have been hit by a stray bullet.
