2nd taxi cab driver reports robbery in Lebanon

Lebanon police are investigating a second incident this week where a taxi cab driver was robbed after being dispatched to pick up a fare.

A 39-year-old cab driver reported that he was robbed by three males after he arrived in the 700 block of Church Street at around 10:45 Wednesday, city police said.

The driver said two of the robbers got into his cab, and one pushed what he believed to be a gun in his back while demanding money, according to police.

The third man stayed outside the cab, and all three fled with the driver's cash, police said.

The crime is similar to an incident Wednesday morning, when a 51-year-old driver reported that he had been dispatched to an address in the 300 block of Guilford Street and robbed of his money and cell phone.

He said three males entered his cab and pushed what he believed to be a silver gun in his back.

Neither driver was harmed.

Police said they believe the same people are responsible for both crimes, as well as an attempted robbery early Tuesday at the Issis Oil Store at 12th and Cumberland streets.

In that incident, the store clerk reported that he yelled at three suspicious males as they quickly approached the counter.

The clerk told officers that he then went into the office area and locked the door, and the three left the store without taking any merchandise and without speaking to him. The clerk did not see any weapons, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lebanon City Police Department at 717-272-6611.
