Police: unlicensed driver led police on morning chase

A 19-year-old driver has received a dozen traffic citations and some criminal charges after leading police on a chase from Elizabethville to the bottom of Peters Mountain early Thursday morning.

The chase began around 3:30 a.m. when a Pennsylvania State Police trooper tried to approach a SUV that did not have registration plates. The driver, Shane Pozoic, took off and drove through yards and fields.

The trooper ended the chase by performing a pit maneuver in which the police car bumps the rear of the car to spin it out and force a stop. The SUV then hit an embankment and rolled over.

Some spilled fuel ignited when police were taking the driver into custody.  They got the driver and passenger out safely but the driver had minor burns to his torso. He was treated and released and is currently being held in Dauphin County Prison.

Police say the driver does not have a license and was not intoxicated.

Pozoic has been charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, criminal mischief, possessing an instrument of a crime with intent to use it, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, improperly displaying a license plate, driving without a license, failing to keep right, passing on the left, disregarding a traffic lane, not stopping at a stop sign, not using a turn signal, driving at a safe speed, careless driving, traveling on cultivated land and reckless driving.
