Harrisburg is warning residents that it will never solicit bill payment over the phone after a resident was scammed out of $2,000.

The victim was called on Tuesday and told their water service would be cut off if they didn't pay their bill immediately. The victim them provided their checking account information to the caller.

In a press release Wednesday, the city said they do not provide over-the-phone payment options to customers and if anyone is contacted by someone requesting this type of payment they should contact police and not provide any information.
