Shoplifters arrested after bicycle getaway, police say

Two men caught shoplifting from the Walmart store in Carlisle dropped the stolen goods and made their getaway on bicycles, but were arrested a short time later when a witness told officers where to find them, borough police said.

Danny Purdue, 30, and Trevor Kuhn, 20, both of Carlisle, had concealed nearly $300 worth of merchandise – including air mattresses, a fan, a hand pump and a generator – before they were confronted by story security Wednesday, police said.

The two dropped all of the stolen merchandise and jumped on their bikes, but the witness tip led responding officers to a parking lot at 20 West Willow Street, where the pair was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Purdue and Kuhn were charged with retail theft and conspiracy and then sent to Cumberland County Prison on $50,000 bail each.
