5 handguns stolen from 4 unlocked cars, police say

Police in Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County said they are investigating the theft of five handguns from four vehicles in two days.

All of the incidents took place in the same neighborhood within a few blocks of each other, police said in a news release Friday.

A 9mm handgun was stolen during the first incident, reported Wednesday in the area of the 2000 block of Market Street Extended, police said.

Four additional guns were stolen Thursday; a .380 handgun and a laptop computer were taken from a vehicle in the 1800 block of Market Street Extended, a .45 caliber and a 9mm handgun were removed from a vehicle in the first block of Hanover Street, and a 9mm handgun was stolen from a vehicle in the 1800 block of Lakeside Drive, police said.

Authorities said all of the thefts apparently occurred during hours of darkness, and all of the vehicles were unlocked. One of the handguns has been recovered.
