A Harrisburg man was convicted this afternoon of murdering a Steelton cab driver in a robbery attempt in March 2012, according to Senior Deputy District Attorney Johnny Baer.
After four hours of deliberation, a Dauphin County jury found 21-year-old Adrian Collins guilty of first degree murder, second degree murder, robbery and carrying a firearm without a license.
Collins murdered 38-year-old cab driver Atlas Simpson after robbing him of a wad of cash that was in his car's sun visor.
Simpson was found slumped over inside his cab around 11:00 a.m. at the corner of 15th and Market streets on March 11. Police said he was shot in the back of the head.
Investigators said Collins was in the cab with a number of other people when he shot Simpson. According to Baer, that was the crux of Collins' defense.
