Feds charge Harrisburg man with firearms offenses

Federal prosecutors said they charged a Harrisburg man with firearms offenses as part of a partnership with the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office.

Carl Murphy Jr., 32, was indicted
Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Harrisburg charging him with two
counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith.

Smith said the charges against Murphy are the result of allegations that on March 7, 2012 and on October 13, 2012, Murphy possessed a firearm after having previously been convicted of a
felony crime.

The guns were recovered by Harrisburg police.

The partnership with the district attorney's office was
announced in August 2012 to help respond to a surge of violent crime in the city.
