Gibble’s snack food line to end

Gibble's Foods will shut down operations this weekend and the popular snack food brand based in Chambersburg since the 1950's will be no more.

abc27 News has learned the last orders will be delivered to grocery stores and other retailers that carry Gibble's products on Saturday.

The potato chip maker was sold December 1 to Eldon Dieffenbach because its previous owner, Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe, wanted to focus on the bakery business.

Officials confirmed earlier this week that Gibble's Foods had filed layoffs warnings, but did not know how many employees would be affected. It's believed about 30 employees work at the snack plant.

Martin's spokesman Scott Heintzelman said that when the Gibble's division was sold, the company's goal was to protect jobs, the brand, and independent distributors that sold the product.

He said the entire Martin family is saddened by the news.

“This is not something we expected, intended, or wanted,” Heintzelman said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that lost their job today and/or will lose the ability to distribute this popular brand.”

Mrs. Gibble's Candies and Mrs. Gibble's Restaurant are no longer affiliated with the snack food company and will remain open.
