Pa. lawmaker introduces school safety bill

A Pennsylvania lawmaker has introduced legislation that would place an armed, retired police officer in all publicly funded schools.

Rep. Mike Regan, R-York/Cumberland, said his measure would add a significant measure of security to public schools and ease the minds of parents and children.

The legislation, House Bill 896, would require the officers to undergo a complete background check and be annually certified.

Their primary responsibility would be to screen visitors for weapons.
