Ephrata police said they have charged four people for their roles in an elaborate fraud scheme that used the credit card information of numerous victims.

Police said the depth of the scam has yet to be determined, but some of those involved have confessed to conducting the crimes in Lancaster, York, Lehigh,
York, Berks and Montgomery counties.

The investigation began Tuesday when officers were dispatched to the Walmart at 890 East Main Street for a fraud in progress and arrested four people.

Those arrested were identified as Vincent Mapp, 56; Daniel Obuamah, 24; Frank Pollux, 26; and Nona Stern, 43, all of Reading.

Each was charged with attempted access device fraud, attempted theft and conspiracy and placed in the Lancaster County Prison.

Police said they eventually determined that the stolen credit card information was used to make online purchases, usually of high priced electronics, on Walmart.com.

Once the fraudulently purchased items were shipped to a local Walmart, members of the scheme would list themselves as an alternate contact person and then pick up the items at the store, police said.

By the time the victims had noticed the fraudulent transactions on their credit card statements, police said days or even weeks had gone by.
