A Lancaster County couple will face the death penalty if convicted of killing their infant son.

District Attorney Craig Stedman said he will ask for the sentence when 24-year-old Andrew R. Moyer Sr. and 23-year-old Brianna E. Michael go on trial.

Moyer and Michael, of Columbia, are charged with criminal homicide, conspiracy, and several counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the death of 6-week-old Andrew R. Moyer Jr., who was found dead October 18 at the couple's apartment in the 100 block of Locust Street.

Stedman has said the couple tortured the baby, refused to get him medical treatment, and struck him on the head until he died.

An autopsy revealed the infant had been abused for at least a week before he died of the head injuries.

He also suffered multiple traumatic injuries in addition to
those to his head; including nine broken ribs, facial injuries, burn
marks and massive injuries to his genitals.

Moyer and Michael are being held in the Lancaster County Prison without bail.
