Ex-teacher charged with child endangerment

A former teacher in the Bermudian Springs School District is facing allegations he asked a 17-year-old for sex, according to state police in Gettysburg.

Robert C. Bonner, 39, of Dillsburg, was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Tony Little on charges of endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. He was then released on $10,000 unsecured bail pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 31.

According to the criminal complaint, the accuser told police that Bonner in June called her out of a final exam and gave her a note that asked if she wanted to have sex with him and his wife.

Bonner later admitted to the allegation when confronted by a school official, the document states.

His accuser also reported that Bonner had previously asked her to have sex with him, police said in the court document.

Bonner coached the Bermudian Springs baseball team to a Class AA state championship in 2010 and was a chemistry teacher at the high school in York Springs from August 2006 until September 2012, when the school board approved his resignation, effective immediately.

Bermudian Springs superintendent Shane Hotchkiss said in a statement that the district has fully cooperated with authorities since the initiation of their investigation and will continue to do so.
