Tellers at the M&T Bank in Chambersburg said a man who demanded cash Thursday afternoon told them he had a bomb.
The robber told the tellers he would detonate the explosive device if they tried to call police. He then fled the back at around 12:15 p.m., police said.
Route 30 was closed in both directions for approximately 45 minutes while the Hazardous Device and Explosive Section secured the area.
They used a robot to enter the bank and examine the device and eventually determined it was not an explosive.
Police are looking for a 6'0″ tall man in his late 20s to early 30s. At the time of the incident he was wearing a black ski coat, cap, glasses, scarf, gloves, and blue jeans.
Anyone with more information may call police at 717-264-5161 or 717-263-3000.
