Police standoff ends with bank robbery suspect dead in hotel room

A Dauphin County man wanted for two bank robberies was found dead inside a hotel room after a standoff with police.

Susquehanna Township Police Chief Robert Martin said Joe Pavelic was wanted for two robberies in the area. The most recent holdup happened at the Metro Bank along Jonestown Road in Lower Paxton Township Thursday afternoon.

Police said Pavelic barricaded himself inside a hotel room at the Days Inn on Front Street in Susquehanna Township around 7 p.m. Thursday. For several hours, police said they tried to convince him to surrender. When police finally entered the room, they said they found Pavelic dead from an apparent suicide.
