The ramps from northbound Interstate 81 to Front Street in Harrisburg will open ahead of schedule and should be available to drivers early this evening, according to PennDOT.
PennDOT announced yesterday that the ramps would reopen Friday morning, but said today that the work has been moved ahead because of inclement weather in the forecast for this evening into Friday morning.
The contractor began work this morning to begin removing the ramp restrictions.
PennDOT spokesman Mike Crochunis said drivers traveling I-81 North may encounter lane and shoulder restrictions as crews remove the barriers and signs.
The ramps have been closed since October 6. They will remain open over the winter season, but are scheduled
to close again next April so that concrete repair work and a painting
operation involving the ramps can be finished.
The work is part of a $36.5 million bridge rehabilitation project
that began in October 2009 and is scheduled to be completed early next
