Governor Tom Corbett is calling for a moment of silence in remembrance of the shooting victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

The moment of silence, at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, will coincide with a proclamation issued by Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy, who has also asked Connecticut places of worship and government buildings that have the ability to ring their bells 26 times.

Malloy asked governors across the country to join the residents of his state in the moment of reflection.

“We take this opportunity to think of all the people in Connecticut whose happiness was shattered in just a few minutes one week ago,” Corbett said in a statement. “We mourn the loss of these innocent lives and pray for their heartbroken families and friends who are coping with their grief.”

The Sandy Hook gunman, Adam Lanza, killed his mother and then shot 26
children and school staff members before killing himself last Friday.
