The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education announced Friday that it has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the union representing about 400 athletic coaches at the 14 state-owned universities.
The coaches are represented by the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF), the same union that represents university faculty.
Details of the tentative agreement, which would run through June 30, 2015, will be released upon its ratification. The coaches likely will vote sometime in late January or early February.
Negotiations continue with faculty. Union members voted overwhelmingly last month to give their leadership the authority to call a strike, but the faculty has assured students there will be no walkout before the end of the fall semester.
APSCUF represents about 6,000 faculty members at the state-owned universities.
