A nonprofit group is warning that fraudulent fund-raising phone calls are being made by people falsely claiming to represent their organization.
Lutheran Social Services of South Central Pennsylvania has received several reports within the last few days from concerned people regarding the phone calls, according to spokeswoman Carolyn McNamara.
In each incident, the caller fraudulently stated they were a representative of Lutheran Social Services and were raising money for the American Cancer Society.
McNamara said Lutheran Social Services is not involved in any fund raising efforts with the American Cancer Society, nor does it randomly solicit funds by phone or email.
She said anyone who receives a phone call requesting a charitable contribution from anyone claiming they are from Lutheran Social Services should hang up immediately and call 911 to report the call.
