Police say the burglars responsible for stealing cash, firearms and electronics from six Lancaster County homes are armed and dangerous. They are urging all residents to keep valuables out of sight and make sure doors and windows are locked.
Colombia Borough Police say the burglaries are “crimes of opportunity,” where the perpetrators enter home through unlocked doors and windows in the early evening — often when residents are home. Residents should not try to confront the burglars.
“Retreat to safety and call the police immediately … The suspects are very brazen in their actions, and are to be considered armed and dangerous,” police wrote in a press release.
The burglaries are not isolated incidents and do not appear to have geographic boundaries, borough police said. Homes have been burglarized on the 600 block of Plane St., South 9th St., 900 block of Plane St., 100 block. of Chestnut St., the 1st block of North 4th St., and the 100 block of South 6th St.
The most common items being stolen are purses, cash, firearms, loose change, digital cameras and GPS devices.
Anyone with information about these burglaries is asked to contact Detective Matthew Leddy or Sergeant Adam Miller with the Columbia Borough Police Department at 717-684-7735.
