A 20-year-old Cumberland County man has been charged with homicide by vehicle for the death of a young Enola woman who was a passenger in his pickup truck.
Joshua E. Ozio, also of Enola, was additionally charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter, illegal racing, and related summary offenses, according to East Pennsboro Township police.
Police said their investigation determined that Ozio was traveling at 87 miles per hour seconds before he crashed the Ford F-150 into a Ford Explorer at the intersection of Valley Road and Pine Hill Road.
Ozio's passenger, 21-year-old Jennifer Helman, died in the September 23 crash. Police have said that she was ejected from the vehicle after it rolled over, and died at a hospital where she was flown after the crash.
Ozio was also flown to a hospital where he was treated and released.
The driver of the Explorer had minor injuries. Police said he had just turned onto Valley Road from Pine Hill Road when his SUV was struck by Ozio's pickup.
Ozio was released on $25,000 unsecured bail following his arraignment. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for December 31.
