WHTM-TV and its promotional partners announced today that it will distribute smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to local fire departments as part of Operation Save A Life.
More than 3,000 ten-year, sealed battery smoke alarms and 500 carbon monoxide alarms will be distributed as part of the public awareness campaign, which is now in its seventh year.
Operation Save A Life is designed to encourage central Pennsylvanians to take proactive steps to help protect themselves and their loved ones in the event of a fire.
The campaign is made possible each year by The Home Depot, as well as the generous support of Kidde, which donates the smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.
Kidde will ship the alarms to abc27 the week of Thanksgiving. Local fire companies will then help distribute the alarms and help install them where they are most needed.
In addition to installing smoke alarms, Kidde and abc27 urge families to create and frequently practice a fire escape plan.
