Notice anything different along State St.? Take a close look, and you'll see the median landscaped with rocks and flowers thanks to a group of young pros.
Sedum Autumn Joy, that's the flower, planted in the median leading up to the capital. Come spring, they will bloom into a red-pinkish beacon of hope.
Katie Brackin walked by a admits, she likes the new look.
“It brightens it up,” said Brackin. “I think it looks much more completed.”
On Thursday, crews put the final touches on the median. The volunteers responsible for the overhaul are the Harrisburg Young Professionals. With about a thousand strong, these fresh faces raised $30,000 for the project.
Matt Crocker who was in charge of the project for HYP said this group can do what the city cannot.
“We can really put our money where our mouth is, raise the money and make these things happen,” he said.
HYP has already revamped the Forester St. corridor and plans to tackle City Island next.
