2 charged in shooting that injured Harrisburg girl

Harrisburg police have charged two city men for a shooting last year that left a teenage girl partially paralyzed when she was struck by a stray bullet.

Sayid Hall, 18, of the 1200 block of Walnut Street, and Dyrelle Beaty, 20, of the 100 block of Royal Terrace, were each charged Wednesday with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and related crimes, according to police.

Police suspect the two in a April 25, 2011 shooting in the 300 block of Crescent Street.

Seventeen-year-old Tajahana Anderson suffered a serious gunshot wound the her back, while her 18-year-old brother was hit in the ankle and another 18-year-old man suffered a grazing wound to his shoulder, police said.

All three were struck by stray bullets when at least two men opened fire on each other, police said.

“I'm happy they are going to do time for it,” Anderson told abc27 News on Wednesday.

Anderson spent three months in the hospital. She still gets around in a wheelchair and goes to
therapy three times a week. Doctors give her a 50-50 chance she'll walk again, but she's starting to see and feel progress.

“I'm starting to get sensations in my hips and I can move my hips more,” she said. “And I have faith in God.”

Anderson's mother, Tara Nealy, kept in contact with police and says they kept their promise.

“Sergeant Carter and Detective Neal did an awesome job,” she said. “They assured the day she got shot that they were going to catch them.”

Anderson said the arrests will allow her to focus on her number one goal to walk again, but she plans to be there when Hall and Beaty have their day in court.

“I will go and let them see what they did to me,” she said. “It was not good for them to do. They should be in jail for what they did because they did change my life.”

Police said their investigation is ongoing and other charges may be brought.
