PennDOT to replace Route 116 bridge in Gettysburg

Work will begin June 4 to replace an 80-year-old bridge that carries Route 116 over
Rock Creek at the east end of Gettysburg, according to PennDOT.

Route
116 will be closed to through traffic between Sixth
Street in Gettysburg and Latimer Avenue in Straban Township for up to 11
months, PennDOT spokesman Mike Crochunis said.

Until then, a detour which follows Route 15 and Route 30 will be in place.

The existing steel bridge was built in 1932 and is classified as structurally
deficient.
