Nine men have been charged following a six-month investigation into what police call an “upper level” illegal drug distribution ring in York County.
State police and officers from Springettsbury and West Manchester townships confiscated more than $70,000 in marijuana and $47,000 in cocaine, along with seven vehicles, two motorcycles and two handguns.
Police said the suspects were not typical drug dealers. Most were middle-aged and lived in modest neighborhoods, and one worked a nine-to-five job to keep his cover, leading authorities to dub the investigation “Operation Suburban Sleeper.”
“They look like your normal guy,” Springettsbury police Lt. Daniel Stump said. “They are the ones out there mowing their lawn. They weren't real flashy.”
Police said an anonymous caller tipped them of and helped put Operation Suburban Sleeper to rest.
They're still investigating how the drugs were transported into York County and expect more arrests of lower level dealers.
