A man wanted for the rape and attempted murder of a 14-year-girl in Puerto Rico has been arrested in Franklin County.
Juan Carlos Torres-Melendez, 33, was taken into custody without incident Friday at a restaurant in Guilford Township, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities said Torres-Melendez, formerly of Puerto Rico, on May 19 lured the teen to a place where he sexually assaulted her and stabbed her 17 times.
The victim, said to be a girlfriend of Torres-Melendez, was left for dead but survived, authorities said.
He fled Puerto Rico shortly after he was charged with attempt homicide, aggravated assault, sexual aggression, and weapons offenses.
