Body recovered from Susquehanna River

Search teams recovered the body of a Marietta man from the Susquehanna River after he walked into the water with his dog and never returned to shore, according to police.

John Ziegler, 59, had gone to the river shore off S. Chestnut Street with a friend Thursday night, according to Susquehanna Regional police. He was about 50-60 yards from the shore when the dog returned without him, police said.

When Ziegler he did not answer calls from the shore, firefighters and river rescue teams began looking for him. They found his body shortly after 10 p.m., not far from where he had gone into the water, police said.
